Record Description | This record (Part One of two records, see also Record No ) provides a photographic record of the alder rich woodland within Stone Close Gill and on the banks of Thwaite Beck within the uppermost pastures of Stone Close Farm. Whereas alders are the dominant native trees within Stone House Gill, occasional stunted ash trees, ancient holly and hazel coppice survive on the steep sides of the Gill. Highly picturesque wind blown Scots Pine and Larch trees planted many years ago line the top edge of the Gill and the Gill has been recently replanted.
